Kelley Park Meeting

January 21, 2009

Meeting Minutes

Present:  Paul Weston, Claire Moorhead, Joe Denning, Barbara Greenwood, Scott Doucette, Greg Gorski, John Clark, Leslie Dion

November Meeting Minutes:  Barbara moved to accept the November minutes.  Leslie seconded and the motion passed.

Turf Project:  Paul passed out a copy of the bid proposals.  He reports that eight or nine contractors took bids and only two bids were received in.  We have $22,771.20 for the turf project and $18,587.53 encumbered from unspent funds in the 2008 budget.  Paul recommends that we go with Bid 2 with Alternate A & B.  Scott expressed that we need to be sure that the maintenance is done if we are going to put money into the field.  Paul would like to speak with JP Morrison to see if he would be able to do the project for the $41,000 that we have.  The Committee endorsed Paul proceeding with the Selectboard and Morrison Construction.

We will need to close this side of the park once work begins.  Scott recommends that we wait until after the Middle School baseball season is over and start in mid-June.

Tractor:  Scott asked about the need for a mowing attachment for the tractor.  Paul said that we have an ancient John Deere and the Highway Department has offered the use of their Kubota but it would need a mowing attachment.  The cost for this is $2,100.

Skatepark Fence:  Les reports that the four pieces of equipment for the skate park have been delivered and are being stored at RP Williams right now.  We need to get a fence put up so that they can be placed in the spring.  Les will be checking with the School Board regarding the MOU to use the area.

Les suggested that the Lion’s and Rotary Club might be willing to take on the selling of the gift bricks to raise funds for the fence.  Joe will talk to the Lion’s and Les and Greg will talk to Rotary.

Signage Needs:  We need to discuss what signage we will be putting at the field at our next meeting.  There was discussion about having a no smoking policy.  This would need to be made an ordinance.  It was also suggested that it be designated a Drug Free Zone.  Paul suggested we check with LGC to see how to do this.

Scoreboard:  We have info from Pete Cofran about the cost of a scoreboard.  It is in the $4,000 range.

Budget:  We discussed the fact that $8,000 comes into the Town budget from NASD for Kelley Park.  The Budget Committee should be made aware of this.

Next Meeting:  The next meeting will be on March 3rd at 4 pm at the Town Office.

Respectfully Submitted
