MINUTES FROM MARCH 17, 2009

BOARD OF TRUSTEES’ MEETING- MINOT-SLEEPER LIBRARY

 

PRESENT:  Barbara Greenwood, Deborah Doe, Deborah Gilbert, Librarian; Roger Nichols, Chair; George Corrette, Treasurer; William Barrett, Nancy Gavalis, Sue Brundrett, and Wendy Costigan, Secretary.

 

ABSENT:  Glenn Dorr, vice-chair.

 

SECRETARY’S REPORT:  The minutes from the February meeting were reviewed by all those present.  A correction to the words literacy circle should read literary circle. Barbara Greenwood made a motion to accept the amended minutes and William Barrett seconded. The motion passed as all were in favor.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:  George Corrette reported the following balances:

·        $6,011.46 in the checking account

·        $91,000 in the investment pool

·        $80,800 in the stock portfolio

·        A check was received in the amount of $1705.17 from a class action law suit from a Massachusetts investment firm.

·        Accumulated deposits in the amount of 3053.73 were deposited in the building fund which is now totaled at $7500.

Nancy Gavalis made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report.  Sue Brundrett seconded and the motion carried as all were in favor.

 

LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:  Deborah Gilbert reported the following:

·        As of the end of February there has been a 12% increase in library use over this time 2008.

·        The Welcome Spring open house will be Saturday March 21st from 10-12 showcasing new books that were acquired through grants.

·        The Lincoln lectures were marvelous and well attended.

·        The Literary Circle’s book and author tea at the Homestead is scheduled for May 9th at the Homestead Restaurant.

·        Deborah Gilbert is in the process of completing the Moose plate grant application.

 

CORRESPONDENCE: None.

 

OLD BUSINESS: 

·        Deborah Gilbert received an email updating the status of the stimulus grant application.  The stimulus money is going to be spent for repairs and equipment in libraries, not new construction.

·        Marcia Morris suggested that there is possible money through Senator Shaheen’s office that is not stimulus money. Deborah Gilbert will be going to Concord to meet with the Senator’s  people.

·        Deborah is also looking in Brownsfield money to go towards the annex property.

·        There have been problems with the tile floor breaking apart upstairs in the library. The tiles will need to be removed or encased. The Brownsfield money could be used for these repairs.

 

NEW BUSINESS: 

·        Barbara Greenwood made a motion to confirm Deborah Gilbert as the Head Librarian.  William Barrett seconded and the motion passed as all were in favor.

·        Election of Officers - 2009-2010:

 

            Deborah Doe- Secretary

            George Corrette- Treasurer

            Wendy Costigan- Chair

             Roger Nichols- Vice-chair

 

PUBLICITY:  Library blog site and the cable channel are the library’s major sources of advertising.

 

William Barrett made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Sue Brundrett seconded.  The motion carried as all were in favor.
