BRISTOL OLD HOME DAY AUGSUT 23rd
– SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!
BRISTOL ¾ Come celebrate over 60 years of community involvement with Bristol’s Annual Old Home Day event set for Saturday, August 23, 2008. This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever with antique cars, games, food, crafters, vendors, music, fun, and of course all your friends and neighbors to help you celebrate. The day will feature family-friendly activities at Kelley Park with something for everyone, and while admission is free, some activities do require a nominal fee.
Saturday activities kick off with Antique autos registering and showcasing their stuff out at Bristol Shop ‘n Save on Saturday morning from 8 - 10 am. Then they will head into town for a parade through the town square. Due to low participation and a potential drain on community and committee resources, the OHD parade has been downsized to only include the antique autos this year. Please see the accompanying article for more details.
Activities at Kelley Park start off with Re/Max hot air balloon rides from 9:00 – 11 am if the winds aloft will allow it. There is a fee for balloon ridesXXX . You can try your luck in the Horseshoe tournament at 10 am but be there to register early! The bulk of the festivities are yet to come with a craft fair featuring local crafters and children’s activities including face painting, pony rides and games from 11 am – 5 pm at Kelley Park. D.S. Logging will be offering horse drawn wagon rides around town all day as well! Children will be able to see their favorite vehicles up close at the Touch-A-Truck event from 10 a.m. to noon along North Main Street and the Antique autos will be on display as well. Local’s Neal Martin and DJ Chuck Noel will provide music for the day and there will even be family fun bingo under the tent from 2:30 – 4:30 pm. A special presentation this year will be the “Forever Locked” Moose exhibit. See the accompanying article for more details.
Local community organizations and businesses will be represented by informational booths in Kelley Park along with the crafters. Stop by and say hello to local police, and check out the Fire Departments Emergency Operations Trailer. The Bristol Lions Club will be cooking during the day, but be sure to save room for dinner!
The TTCC’s Famous Chicken & Lobster dinner goes from 5 – 6:30 pm. We suggest you buy your tickets ahead of time so you aren’t left out! Tickets are available at the Thompson Tapply Community Center and are $17 for lobster; $13 for chicken; $19 for a combo plate and $4 for a children’s hotdog plate. Entertainment will also be provided during the dinner. In case of inclement weather, the dinner will be held inside the community center.
Round off the day by enjoying an old-fashioned country square dance inside the TTCC with Lester Bradley. Beginning at 7:30 pm the Square Dance is hosted by the Bristol Historical Society.
There will be a number of fun surprises in store for the day, so be sure to mark your family calendar and plan to participate. It is a great way to catch up with old friends and neighbors. There are ways for the whole community to participate – businesses, organizations, young and old alike. Anyone seeking more information about Old Home Day should contact the Tapply Thompson Community Center at 744-2713, the Town of Bristol at 744-3354 or email Claire Moorhead at bristolevents@townofbristolnh.org.
The Town of Bristol would like to thank Bristol Shop 'n Save for their sponsorship and support of Bristol Old Home Day.
