Rescue

To handle the number of rescue calls that the department is asked to respond to each year, employees undergo specialized training. All firefighters are trained to operate at vehicle accidents and are certified to respond to Hazardous Materials incidents at the Operations level.  Most employees have achieved Technician level certification in one or more technical rescue disciplines.

The department is able to handle technical rescue calls at the Technician level in the following areas:

  • Rope Rescue (High and Low Angle)
  • Swiftwater Rescue (including Boat Operations)
  • Still Water and Ice Rescue
  • Confined Space
  • Trench Rescue

The department's 4 Rescue 1 carries most of the specialized equipment needed to perform these rescues. During the summer months the department has a 22' boat on Newfound Lake. We also have an inflatable boat kept at the Fire Station for use in the rivers, or on the lake.
