Flood Insurance Rate Map and Study proposed revisions

The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has provided preliminary copies of the revised Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report for Grafton County. Copies of the revised information have been posted to the FEMA Map Service Center.

A 90-day appeal period has begun, which allows any owner or lessee of real property in the Town of Bristol, who believes his or her property rights will be adversely affected by the proposed flood hazard determinations to appeal. However, the sole basis for such appeals is the possession of knowledge or information indicating that the proposed flood hazard determinations are scientifically or technically incorrect. Only appeals supported by scientific or technical data can be considered before FEMA makes its final flood hazard determination at the end of the 90-day appeal period. Note the 90-day appeal period is statutory and cannot be extended.

FEMA will also accept comments during this period, including minor changes of road names, spelling errors, or other base map features.

The 90-day appeal period will end on January 25, 2023 and following this, FEMA will resolve all appeals and finalize the changes.

All appeals and comments, must be submitted in writing to the Land Use Manager, Joanne Bailey. Submissions can be made via email - [email protected] or via mail - 5 School St, Bristol, NH 03222. The information submitted must be reviewed and commented on by the Town of Bristol before submission to FEMA. Therefore, all appeals and comments MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN JANUARY 18, 2023.
