Forestry

4 Forestry 1

Forest Fire prevention and suppression is a function of the Fire Department in the Town of Bristol. The Fire Chief serves as the Fire Warden, as appointed by the Director of NH's Forest and Lands division.

Fire permits are required when there is not snow cover. Fire permits can be obtained at the Fire Station from the duty crew. For more information on Fire Permits and outdoor burning please visit the Fire Permits page.

Both of the department's engines carry tools and equipment for use on forestry calls, and may be used to supply larger volumes of water to an incident. The department's primary Forestry apparatus is 4 Forestry 1, a repurposed 1-ton Ford that was obtained from the Hiighway Department. Outfitted with a flat bed, and custom tool boxes, the vehicle is 4-wheel drive and can access off-road forestry incidents. The vehicle has a small pump and 350 gallon water tank along with forestry hose, hand tools, and portable water pumps.
